Chaz from Toro y Moi had a number of songs floating around which later got a more official release. My fave tune was left off of it so I made a fan video by pirating a video from his old band. I really like something about the song though; it reminds me of Born to Run by Bruce Springsteen — the we’re gonna make it out of this place and when we come back we’ll be stars vibe.
There is an (unposted) audio component to this still. It features a young African American man from the south explaining the difference between two different gambling games involving dice.
With the homogenization of culture will his dialect survive, and if so for how long?
In 2007, Nike made an amazing dress for Maria Sharapova. I remember laying on my bed at the Van de Kasteelen in Amsterdam watching her early round Roland Garros match. It looked really cool in motion.
When I got back home I was really into French music. I remember liking Surkin a lot. Of course, everything on Ed Banger records was cool at the time. At the end of the year, Justice put out the X-mas mix (which has a legend of its own).
I got in touch with Jesse from the band Fancy via myspace and did this video for them. I loved their song on the X-mas mix and actually thought they were a band from the 70’s (there is another band from that era called Fancy, but that is another story).
All of the shots (to the best of my memory) were culled from fan footage of their shows around Paris 2007/08.
I like when people reach out, although occasionally I pause from reading youtube comments because I didn’t want to get stuck repeating myself.
Anyway, a musician from upstate New York named Clayton contacted me. He also does music under a ton of aliases.
But what excites me most of all is that I FINALLY got to RAP!!!
I’m not sure if you can see this video. I think it depends on what country you live in.
Bodies << Link
I dreamed of making a video for this song before Youtube was invented, but it was really impossible at the time to imagine the editing technology. Mellon Collie arrived in 1995.
Once a pal teased me saying, “I thought you were going to do that Carrie video for Bodies.” I didn’t feel ready.
Nobody beats the combination of Stephen King’s novel, Brian DePalma’s adaptation and Billy Corgan’s tortured passion. It gave me such a strong vision. I’m very happy that the internet was able to evolve such a short time later where we could share visual ideas and dreams.
Love is suicide.
